Am I the only one?

No.

This is a function of the fact that doing a job well causes no difference in treatment over doing a job poorly.

Unfortunately, this extends to all levels of the consumer chain.

Consumers will go to WalMart because they are one dollar cheaper even knowing that they pillage the suppliers and produce junk. WalMart in turn, doesn't care whether their suppliers are any better--they are just going to pressure the prices. The suppliers, in turn, get no more money for creating a better product, just a cheaper one so they pressue the employees. The employees, in turn, wind up working in interchangeable jobs with no continuity, so it doesn't matter whether they do the job or not (go ahead and fire me, it's not like this is a good job and you're going to get anyone better)--all the jobs are equally crappy with no incentive, so they do a crappy job. And the employees then become consumers who shop at WalMart and start the cycle anew.

It's a race to the bottom.
