Perhaps you'd be glad to know government recently said SBC
didn't have to allow resellers to use their lines.
IIRC, FCC said this would <cough> "encourage competition" <cough>.
Gotta love our elected officials.

It only encourages competition from the cable(who i use) companies, and wireless companies. I have a real problem with that, because SBC laid those lines, when some risk was removed by granting them a monopoly on service. The lines should have reverted to the municipalities that granted that monopoly after a specified time. The cable companies are in the same boat, if not just a little less so. The only company that we have here that laid their lines, without government assistance to remove the risks has been Everest(a subsidiary of Aquila). They laid fiber to specific neighborhoods, and have grown throughout our community for the last few years. They are managing to compete so far, but since COX is trying to buy TWC, they could soon be squashed.
