I would like to buy some songs (60s through 80s) individually without
looking for the albums in used CD stores. I want to do it legally.

Two questions:
be
1. My CD SW rips to .wav's. Can I buy songs in a format (MP3?) that can
be burned to a CD and does it have to be a .wav?

YOu can convert mp3 back to wav, if you're willing to deal with the quality loss. Cds need to be CD audio data, which is basicly a wav. Some new cd players can play mp3s directly, but don't count on it working on your friends machine.

2. Where do you guys/gals go on line to buy music?

allofmp3.com Its usable from Linux, but the very helpful downloader program only works for Windows. Using it under Linux will require a lot more clicking.
