Things seem to be going in both directions at once. The simple things
which do not require much computing power are staying simple or getting
more so and not needing fans. The desktop PC's and servers however are
needing more and more fans. The new servers we got at work have 4 fans
in the front that each spin at 14k rpm according to the BIOS RPM
monitor. If these servers were liquid cooled those four fans in front,
the cpu fan, and the power supply fan could all be replaced by a much
quieter and probably better cooling pump.
