It is not that we need to generate our info in a particular format. It is that we need to be able to format our info. Very different.

The answer to *that* question I believe is the wonderful and much
beloved DocBook XML with xsltproc (XML-FO) converters.

DocBook will not let us control the lay out like we need to. It is for marking up content. We need content markup AND style/presentation. Can you apply CSS to docbook? I think you would need an XSLT or something to turn it into XHTML and apply CSS to that. The whole terminology around document processing is overwhelming me. The XML-FO might be the way to go if I can find a way to convert it into PDF/PS.
