When I learned electronics tubes were prevalent, transistors were used
in "9 transistor" radios. Intergrated cicuits were bleeding edge and
we even had an experimental "analog" computer in our lab.

We went to an offsite facility to "see" a computer, which was housed
in an air conditioned glass walled room. Only the "operator" could
actully touch the computer, we could communicate with it using cards.

I visited the NORAD facility at Luke AFB as a High School senior. We
walked "inside" the computer, which had tubes, not transistors.
