all been repeated with dotted quads. It's in the posts!
First, DNS is more than just external nameservers. It encompasses all
of the things which are toggled by /etc/nsswitch.conf. Therefore,
/etc/hosts is considered part of the DNS system, as well.
Second, you'll have to pardon me for missing/forgetting the two words
"tried both" at the bottom of a post that is 20 messages back.
Especially when *not one single post from you* has so far described your
network or direct commands in terms of dotted quads.
Finally, you should temper your words given that we are attempting to
help in *spite* of the fact that we are effectively flying blind based
upon vague recollections and imprecise descriptions with an amateur who
currently can't even reach the controls.
Generally, I regard those who find the time to be rude as having the
time to find the problem by themselves. Enjoy.
