Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core) says:
"Intel Core is the name used for the processor codenamed Yonah (Hebrew
transliteration for Jonah..), released on January 5, 2006. It replaced
the Pentium M brand used for earlier mobile processors with the same
microarchitecture..."

and then, down thqa page at #Advantages_and_shortcomings,
"..no 64-bit (EM64T) support"
and
"..For these reasons, some consider Core to be a temporary stopgap
measure, bridging the brief interregnum between the Pentium M series and
the 64-bit Intel Core 2 CPUs"

sounds disappointing -- but maybe I'm misreading???

I also note that one t2300 specsheet I saw says socket 479, which
w'pedia ids as that used in Pentium-M (is is likely that Pentium-M MoBos
and chipsets are 64bit?)

Thanks, I dug into the Intel site a bit deeper and found similar
information. Oh well, at least the laptop manufacturer says that the CPU can
be upgraded to core 2 duo mobile (as soon as I can get one) with a BIOS
upgrade. 32 bits it is, for now.
