I believe the context is exactly where the word 'quiesce' fits. In my case, neither acquiesce nor quiesce are especially common words in my usage vocabulary, but acquiesce would be more familiar, so I would be likely to make the same unconscious substitution, giving a slightly inappropriate, slightly humorous malapropism.
