Now, about sound. As I understand it, S-Vid and coax both carry sound with
them, no other connections needed. But I _don't_ know if this applies to
the S-Vid out of the nVidia card, which as I understand it, is the output
of Myth (the S-Vid on the Hauppauge being input, right?).

You are mistaken. S-Video only carries video. You need separate wires for the sound.

Which coax are you talking about? If you mean the coax that comes from Cox Cable and hooks to the RF input of either the TV or the PVR-150, that carries everything in a modulated form, and you need a tuner to do anything with it. If you mean the coax that has RCA connectors and connects to the video (RCA jack) inputs on the TV set, that only carries video and you need separate wires for the audio.

I would like very much not to dink with a mess of sound leads.

Too bad.

With the wiring diagram that I gave you, you only need to use the TV remote control to select what you want to watch. Select ANTENNA to select regular TV, select VIDEO-1 to select MythTV and select VIDEO-2 to watch DVD. I'm not sure how you could make it much simpler. If you leave the VCR in-line with the TV set like it is now, then the only thing that has changed is the addition of MythTV on VIDEO-1.
