Well it looks like the laptop is dead ... that is the bad news.

On the other hand, I have a 500 GB WD hard drive attached to my Mac Mini for one-click backups. It plugs into an USB port and, once the simple setup is done, does incremental backups on demand, keeping my vital data on something other than the machine itself. I've been trying to get my Parallels Desktop to work so I can run Ubuntu on the Mini, but so far the proper mojo has eluded me. Meanwhile, I'm becoming fond of OS X. James -- James E.
