Nah, it was a perk of wealth because of the full faith and credit clause.
Just like, when (clean) abortions are illegal, the rich can still send
their daughters (and secretaries) to Switzerland for a nice, legal
abortion. Being rich is really cool because you can enforce good morals in
the poor without necessarily having to partake of them yourself.
