Enough. Please stop sending this spam.

If you must send this, supply some commentary as to *why* I might want to read it and supply a *link* (not an attachment).
..
Several people on the list have asked me to send them the last time
someone complained. So, by popular demand, I continued to send them.

I do remember that. Someone or three commented that they were glad to
see the forwarded newsletter.

..but..

I have to vote with Andy. If every newsletter that touched on our
collective interests were embedded in our list, then the signal-to-noise
ratio would greatly suffer [needlessly].

A specious argument. Every newsletter that touches our collective interest is _not_ embedded in this list. This newsletter is, and so far there is nothing to suggest we have been, are, or will be (thanks to this one occasional newsletter) be inundated with spam.

Anyone specifically interested in any one newsletter can himself
subscribe, so there's no /need/ to duplicate the distribution.

By that logic, there's no need to duplicate at least half of the information that passes through this list.

If you believe there is some especially noteworthy news or commentary,
by all means post a note to that effect, with a link (as Andy suggests).

Calling attention to good content will also serve to remind those who
say they like the information where they can get it for themselves.

..jim

Really, I think this is nit picking. We spend an inordinate amount of bandwidth here often enough trading much less relevant trivia. At least the disputed newsletter is relevant. I prefer the occasional wake-up call.

Besides, I thought we were all technologically sophisticated enough to be able to filter/ignore/program/(over-)engineer away/around such posts.

Hell, the newsletter post and it's initial objection had already spawned at least one generation of post-post replies before I even read it! In fact, I'll bet the initial objection caused more "spam" than the newsletter itself (and I haven't even read them all yet).

Must have been an otherwise boring week for some.
