Hell, the newsletter post and it's initial objection had already
spawned at least one generation of post-post replies before I even
read it! In fact, I'll bet the initial objection caused more "spam"
than the newsletter itself (and I haven't even read them all yet).
"But it's just one piece of spam. You can just delete it."
Sound familiar?
And how many times have I heard "If we make an exception for you, we'll
have to make an exception for everyone!"?
Um, no, that's why it's called an Exception.
Let me put it more bluntly:
It's called "opt-in" vs. "opt-out". Opt-out is a bad idea no matter
*who* practices it.
If you can't be bothered to take the 2 seconds to go sign up for this
newsletter directly, you don't really want it that badly, now do you?

I already subscribe to what amounts to a newsletter. This one. It
provides me with a lot of useful information. And an occasional dose of
crap. "Spam" in your words. I'm not interested in everything I see here,
but I'm not childish enough to whine about every little incident of what
is, to me, noise. I come back because on the whole, the pros far
outweigh the minor (and really inconsequential) cons.
Some people are just too easily annoyed. Especially absolutists.
