hi all,
i got a static ip coming into the house that connects to a linksys
router. on the inside i have a fedora box, debian box and a few macs
that get interal static private addresses. this all has worked
flawlessly till a few weeks ago. now, whenever i start either kopete
or gaim or adium (on the macs) a connection is made from the client
but i loose my external static ip and have to reset the router to get
it back.
the truly weird thing is that we also have a wireless wap that gets a
private ip from the same linksys router, and if i use a chat client on
a laptop wirelessly, then there is no problem with losing the static
ip.
When you say you loose the external static IP, what exactly happens? Are
you loosing your connection to the Internet?
If you try pinging the gateway while causing your problem, can you ping
the gateway the whole time or does that drop?
