OK. So I guess we're back to the VIA pc2500 w/ on-board video first
mentioned. Or stand pat.

The pc2500 board won't work for you if you need TV out, unless you are using something else as a frontend like I do.

My guess is that this system has maybe a 2-yr lifetime before DRM, HDTV
etc make it obsolete. So it's do it now or not at all.

True. I bought the pc2500 board to be a low-power MythTV backend that can also be a server. I needed a little more power that what a Kurobox <http://kurobox.com/mwiki/index.php> provides and saw it as an opportunity to play. I can add an ATSC tuner card for HD, I just need a more powerful frontend for play back.

Long story short, I have a jacuzzi that I'm installing in our master bath. In the corner I have installed a 19" wide-screen monitor that will connect to a computer. It's all sealed and safe from moisture. My Dish DVR system has dual tuners and a UHF remote, optical, S-Video, and audio outputs. The plan is to connect the DVR to the computer, the computer to the network and the monitor.

I will need a computer system that can handle playback, and recording of video coming from the DVR in either DTS or surround sound. I don't want to spend a bunch of money (I'm a CB, unless I get a decent job in which case I won't care about price.)

So, video experts from KPLUG, your suggestions?

(Note: The Dish DVR has no DRM and supports HD format. There is no signal degradation, etc. preventing recording of DVR content. I pay for the privilege so all video and audio coming out of the box is clean. I just wish I knew what the USB port on the back is for.)
