How can I rip all the frames of a movie?

'mplayer -vo jpeg Koyaanisqatsi.vob'

Try 'mplayer -vo help'

I looked at that help output. It seems to just indicate CPU info and the formats mplayer can output. I chose jpeg (like your example) and got this:

I got 164 jpg files that look very corrupted. A few of them had *just* enuf detail that I could tell that it was the 7 second opening advert for 20th Century Fox. And the aspect had been changed. It was NOT a widescreen output.

A specified portion would be just as good.

'mplayer -frames' will get you started. I forget what it is to get you ended.

I tried 'mplayer -frames help'. It appears that frames must be followed by an integer. My guess is that frames tells it how many to step from wherever the start point is.

Or if I cannot do either of those, is there a movie
player that I can make advance or retreat only one frame at a time (and
display full screen)?

'mplayer Koyaanisqatsi.vob' and then pause (with the space bar). Now
press the period on your keyboard.

That is KEWL. But the output is just as corrupted as the jpg files created previously. (But it's so KEWL about pause, frame stepping, and resume.) I need to get an output that is not corrupted. It must be mplayer itself that is corrupting the images since this run was not directed to jpg files.

If you want an example, I could send a frame (or a few) of the output I got. If so, just let me know where to send it.

I have the necessary plugins to be able to play a DVD movie. The
players I'm using seem to only have the ability to unpause and pause by
clicking on a button. I find it very difficult sometimes to get close
enuf to the frame I want.

I would like to be able to get to the frame I want, pause, and then
hit a key to drop that frame to jpeg or the like. I don't know of a
way to do that.

I don't know how to drop the frame directly "to jpeg or the like". That's why I have been hitting the button on my keyboard that says "Print Scrn" which gives me a png file. It does ok, altho I would like to find a way to do a direct dump. But if I can dump the whole movie to jpg files, I can just delete the ones I don't care about, which would end up being most of them but I would like to start off with all of them.
