Try 'mplayer -vo help'

'mplayer Koyaanisqatsi.vob' and then pause (with the space bar).  Now
press the period on your keyboard.

I would like to be able to get to the frame I want, pause, and then
hit a key to drop that frame to jpeg or the like.  I don't know of a
way to do that.
