They don't put it into your Inbox, they put it in All Mail. And Sent
Mail, but as I mentioned before that's just a hard-coded tag for all
messages with you in From:. Then, if you receive a copy from the list
as well, the All Mail message (probably based on Message-ID, as you
suggested) is the one that's promoted to your Inbox instead of storing
a new copy of the email.

If you don't want to see your Sent message in the Inbox, just tell
mailman to quit sending you your own list posts.
