Well, okay, I've figured it out...

When using Google's SMTP service, it'll automatically put a copy in your mail. Since it's from you, it'll also automagically show up in your Sent Mail folder. If it matches any of your filters, those will be applied as well, additionally labeling the message (causing it to show up in those folders when viewed by IMAP.

So, if I want to get the copy from the mailing list, instead of having Google squelch it because a message of that same Message-Id already exists, I need to not send through Google's SMTP service _and_ not save a copy in my Sent Mail folder via my IMAP client.

Further testing has proven that if I use a non-Google SMTP server, and a mail I send still gets to my mail account (either I'm a recipient, or on the mailing list), Google will _still_ throw a copy in my Sent Mail folder if the From: header matches my account address, just like Guillermo said.

And, as Dave mentioned, additional copies uploaded via IMAP are not squelched, even though additional copies via remote delivery are.

So, behavior figured out. Thanks!

Gregory
