What is the problem that you are trying to solve by launching a
separate program after you send email? Maybe there is some other way.

Nothing fancy, I just want sending the email to trigger my sig script to
change the sig so that a new one is ready for the next email. It's
better to trigger it *after* sending the email because on my system
~"kbuildsycoca"~ can take up to a minute to run. Or at least after
starting a new email, it can work in the background. I do NOT want to
have to wait for kbuildsycoca to finish before getting my email composer
when I initiate it. In any event, the loading of thunderbird email
composer window should not be impeded by the loading of kbuildsycoca.
I'm using ksig with the random switch. I made a small script and set it
up with an icon. If I remember to click it, I get a new sig the next
time around. I'd like to remove the need to do it myself.
