I'm assuming that you've used a browser to try to connect to something?
I normally get this sort of grief when I use a hotel's internet service,
since I typically resort first to ssh.

I have to bring up a web-browser, attempt to get to some well-known
site, so they can redirect me to their access control web-page. Then, if
I'm lucky, I can do the appropriate dance and agree to the terms of
service, and then they open up everything.

Have you asked the staff if there's anything special you need to do?
Maybe they changed something in their system.

Some hotels expect me to run an ActiveX control;
I tell them that I can't in a voice most droll.
