Sorry guys. You are both wrong. The problem was this
Zeroconf thing. Checkout the links.

I am using Ubuntu 7.0. I went home, hooekd up to
my network then went into the package manager
Synaptic (under KDE) and searched on Zeroconf.
I installed all the Zeroconf stuff.

Now I am back at Itś a Grind ... and tada it all
¨just works.¨

So I am a happy camper.

Coffee and WiFi. You gotta love it.
