Some time ago, perl-ExtUtils-MakeMaker.noarch kept tripping out
because it wanted to update something from 6.xx-x.fc6.rf all over
something in fc7. This package comes from rpmforge.
rpmforge's database often getes into a wack state. currently it is in
one of those wack states.
try:
yum --disablerepo=rpmforge update
and see if that helps.
rpmforge is one of those repos i go to only if i need to -- it has
incompatible packages that tend to break things, even if they say they
do not.

Thanks kelsey, that seems to have helped. We'll see.
I also had to add --disablerepo=freshrpms for some reason. It seems
there's currently a problem there.
But at least perl updated (and installed iwl3945-firmware,
adobe-release-i386, gnome-mplayer, and gecko-mediaplayer (the latter 2
from livna and adobe from adobe-linux)).
One of the perl items that got updated was perl-ExtUtils-MakeMaker. But
this one was .i386, not .noarch.
yum --disablerepo=freshrpms list updates
Updated Packages
libdca.i386 0.0.2-4.fc6.rf
rpmforge
perl-ExtUtils-MakeMaker.noarch 6.42-1.fc6.rf rpmforge
yum --disablerepo=freshrpms --disablerepo=rpmforge list updates
[nothing returned]
I gotta set up an alias to include --disablerepo=rpmforge, maybe
something like yumi.
