what kept you from banging your head on the VirtualBox from Innotek? They
have an open source version and a pretty cheap proprietary version with some
nice extras like USB at remote client connectivity at the backend VM, RDP from
the VM, and a few other features.
Not including USB support in the open source version is a dealbreaker.
In addition, VirtualBox has similar failures to qemu (not surprising as
they apparently share some fairly low-level code).
