Linux ran on the Alpha long before Windows did.
Is this true? I clearly remember the PC164 boards running NT rather
well while I pounded my head off the wall in frustration to get Linux
running. This was in the 1997 time frame.
The effort to port Linux to the alpha began in 1993 according to:

I was quite happily running a very stable Linux on Alpha in 1996. In
fact that was my first experience with RedHat because the two Alpha UDB
boxes I purchased then came with RedHat boxed sets.
