Actually, I see my mistake. You're counting the whole cycle, from interrupt to ready-to-service, and the timing I was looking at wasn't counting stuffing out registers and etc. Which doesn't really support the contention that the Pentium is slower than the chip the author is talking about, but at least it's not obviously wrong. :-)
