Which term should be used in documentation of, say, an open source project to refer to: Linux, BSD, Mac OS X, Solaris, HP-UX, etc.
Is "posix" the right term? I hesitate because I think I've seen MS Windows docs that mention posix compliance for their standard C functions. And in fact Wikipedia lists Windows NT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posix Or "Unix"? Wikipedia uses "Unix-like": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix-like But also mentions terms like Un*x, *NIX and *N?X: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix#Branding What do you guys think? -Chuck -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-lpsg
