..things are not right - too many tabs across the top, the menu on the left drops down too many levels (when you visit the Wiki it shows ALL top level documents in the menu), and so forth. A lot of this is just feature and functional differences from 2.0 to 2.1.

I've been able to delete 3 top tabs by unchecking "visible" from entries in the

   portal_actions

The ones I unchecked were: "Book Reviews", "Photos", and "Contrib", because I felt that having them on the left menu was sufficient.

The unchecked tabs did disappear, but just the first instance of them. The bloody html still contains tabs that must get put there from somewhere else, somehow. I still haven't managed to grok the code at

  site/portal_skins/plone_templates .. global_sections

I figure there must be additive contriburions that do the same as portal_actions. .. Now, where might they be?

Yay! I figured out a way to get rid of the plethora of tabs.

From the /preferences/ link on the personal toolbar, which brings up a leftside menu /Site Setup/, choose /Navigation Settings/. There under /Navigation details/ uncheck the checkbox /Automatically generate tabs/

There may be other options, including unchecking some of the /Displayed content types/ in Navigation details. But, for now the tabs have been reduced to only those 3 which are enabled in portal_actions, as mentioned earlier.

Progress report on Members' directories for deleted members:
46 of the deleted users had no member directory areas
 12 had empty dirs
6 had spam targets -- online drugs, sexstuff
(sorry, I didn't have time to catalog the sex pages <grin>)

There seem to be other dirs created recently. Perhaps I'll make another pass looking for badstuff.

The wiki page still has an annoying leftside menu, but that's somewhat minor. I'll have a look, though. It might be somewhat similar to what was found for the main navigation tabs.

It would be nice if someone wanted to look at the event mechanism and make it work nice -- eg with "smartpages", and maybe with calendar tie-in (however that might be done???) ...

Oh, waitaminute! I hadn't really examined _all_ the folders for deleted users. I'll go back and look some more .. perhaps 46 more <sigh>.
