New is definitely nice, but I agree with RE that we should consider
simpler upgrade possibilities, and do some cost comparisons.

 ..And _then_ decide we like new better <heh>.

It was previously stated (references furnished upon request), that
adding memory and implementing cache-fu (or something like that) would
likely alleviate perceived speed problems. Memory and disk upgrade costs
are not too hard to estimate. Is the power supply and mobo likely to
survive another 5 years?

Build and rebuild costs can't be too different, I suppose.
