Okay, you have 2 different people mixed up here. I'm the one that posted 15 years and it should have been 12. No need for a medical to fly a Light Sport aircraft under 1320 lbs, which I've been doing for years. 1939 Luscombe, 1946 Ercoupe etc. The second person mentioned he's only had to show his medical 3 times. Personally, I've never been asked for my medical or ramp checked in 29 years of flying all over the country.
Hope this clears up some of the misunderstanding. I still don't like the idea of having to get a medical to not need one, especially since I've been flying just fine without one for years!!
