Hello and thank you in advance for any responses.
- Long time lurker/ first time poster. Thanks to Ken Rand family for this
aircraft and to Mark Langford for the inspiration. I searched the database.
I’ll try to be succinct. I apologize for questions of a broad stroke.
Mission and particulars:
We’re stationed in WPB, Florida. I’m 5’10” at 220lbs, wife is 5’7” at 130 lbs.
We would like: a cross country plane for 3 to 5 hour legs to the north east
coast and as far west as NM; fast climb rate and cruise speed; relatively high
altitude operation; IFR; BRS; retractable, tail dragger or fixed tri gear is
fine; able to utilize a certified fuel injection engine; decent glide ratio;
hard to spin and correctable if happens, gentle positive dynamic stability and
a winning lottery ticket, please. 😜
Questions re: the build
We may build two KR2s, do so simultaneously or no?
Looking to rent a warehouse for the build - what should the space
have and not have to facilitate?
Where are the latest reading materials and resources for the latest versions?
Has BRS been incorporated to the level of being conventional?
What is the safest high HP engine in use?
Any builders near West Palm Beach or Florida/Georgia? I know Mark is in
Georgia.
What options are out there to give the KR interior a finished look besides DIY?
Is it true only 10% finish the build?
What is the largest modified wing someone made and what were the loading
results?
Given the inherent safety factor, is the lowering of the g-load worth the wing
size increase?
Prop:
Does the KR airframe cancel the axiom “3 for show, 2 for go”?
What props to avoid for rain?
A shout out to the prop Bank!👍🏻
What are some esoteric prop/engine combos being used out there?
Engine:
Do most builders DIY the mount?
Any one have something against a Rotax 912 is or a Motorav engine for the KR2?
Have torque issues, etc. been examined using larger engines in this airframe?
Performance:
Given both of our weight, using 100+HP, what are realistic cruise speeds?
Mods:
Are there proven plans lengthening the KR2 to accommodate BRS and mitigate CG
issues?
Has anyone used cockpit sound dampening materials?
Where can I learn more about creating slower stall speeds?
Has anyone used carbon fiber replacements parts where wood was traditionally
used?
