I would not expect any meaningful updates as the game has been abandoned. >
Left4Dead in no way has been abandon. It's only been a little over a month since the last content update. If you look at the current overall value of the package, you get *14* campaigns counting all the L4D1 content. Also the last major bug to happen (the sound issue) Valve fixed almost immediately for us, and updated the community here on the mailing list directly. I am really honestly annoyed with people who want to bemoan how L4D is treated, or worse yet, land on Valve for it. I'd like you to name a single other game that's still getting updates, aside from other Valve projects or perhaps some Blizzard or Tripwire games, this long after release? Or a single other game that received ALL previous installment content for completely free on PC? Or are interested in providing new game modes for the community? Valve has done exceptional by Left 4 Dead 2. It's true L4D1 didn't get much content, but given the situation and team changes I have no problem with that. 2 has been great and there's a reason there's still a dedicated player base for it. As for the issue not verifying custom content? I agree it needs to be addressed, and brought up but not in a 'bash valve for being nice to me' entitlement situation. I've seen it happen a lot on servers I've visited; personally I don't mind, as I missed my vocalize radials and it's kind of neat seeing some custom survivor skins. Outside of Realism, "skin packs" and such you're worried about don't really do much in L4D, given infected already see outlines as part of the game itself. At most it helps find items easier; again, it's a problem but there's no reason to go off and say things like "the game was abandon." A huge update about a month ago is not abandonment. Anyway, I've seen this same argument come up time and again and it's really kind of infuriating. It boils down to "They put more stuff in TF2 so therefore I am being cheated on L4D2" when their handling of both games has been far, far above and beyond the call of duty. In an era where getting a single new map for other AAA titles can easily run $15 or so that's an understatement; I'd like to see a single title by another company that's sold as low as $10 or less continue to get any support from the developer; most would already have killed the servers. Apologies for a rant here, but I'm used to seeing this kind of attitude on various forums and I'd really hate to see broad statements like this start up on the mailing list; it's frustrating to me to see the vocal minority spread conjecture like that. I personally am thankful the game continues to see support and patches, and that they care enough to fix issues that impact the mapping community so rapidly. _______________________________________________ L4Dmapper mailing list [email protected] http://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/l4dmapper
