Don raised a good question, how old is your puppy? Most breeders I know
don't allow their pups to go to their new home any younger than 8 weeks of
age where some even older due to vaccinations.
I have a suggestion, let your dog know that night time is sleep time and NOT
play time. Before you go to bed make sure your puppy has done their
toileting business outside before you put them in their crate. In the crate
leave some of your old clothing items which has your scent on them also some
toys, then go to bed. Some people put the crate next to their bed or in
their lounge room. The pup in a new home may cry for attention which may
include whining, barking and scratching, just ignore this and in about 2 to
3 night's time they will stop and sleep through the night. If they are not
yet toilet trained you may have to get up once or twice through the night at
spaced time intervals to allow them to relieve themselves outside, note this
in not play time but toileting time, and the aim is in time their bladders
and holding time will develop the ability to hold it for longer and sleep
through the night.
Some breeders already have commenced toilet training their puppies before
the pups leave the breeder, this where the pups sleep through the night and
also have developed their bladders and holding abilities, so maybe get in
contact with your breeder and ask them what they did so that you can
continue doing what they have been doing where you may find toilet training
much easier.
