Thank you very much for your advice. I just can't bring myself to do the 5 minute thing when I hear him vomitting bile because his tummy is empty. (My bulldogs used to do that all the time.)
I know he's playing me.... And honestly, all I want to do is spoil him but I'm trying to do what's best for him.
Thanks again,
Kristan

If it's dry food I would leave it down. When he get's hungrey he will eat. I have 5 dogs and 11 puppies at present. I do separate my feedings due to different diets and sometimes have to intice certain dogs to eat and will add 1/4 can of moist dog food to a feeding of my younger dogs. My older fatter dogs on diet food don't need that and will scarff that up if allowed. The only time I ever did the 5 min thing is when we had a kennel of Huskies years ago. My husband fed a version of raw diet and if not eaten flies and yuck would happen to it. After 2-3 days of no food because they didn't eat they ate in a hurry.I don't like doing that with my doodles. With one dog I would just leave it down. If you make too big a fuss about the leaving and being present and having to be there your dog may develop separation issues. I made that mistake with one of my older dogs a hunting shorthair and thunderstorms. She is TERRIFIED of them but it's my fault. When little I thought aw how cute poor thing is scared and would cuddle her. Dogs interpret that as I guess I'm suppose to be afraid and it makes things worse. Now I take my young ones outside in the garage and play during a storm, they make bark at the noise but I've not had another scared dog since.........Your good about no table scraps, I do give them some but only in their bowl after we have eaten, they don't beg at the table....I think your pup may be playing you....lol.....they are alot like kids really.......Carol/SCL

For as long as I can help it, he's not going to know human food exists. The trainer said to put his food down and within 5 minutes if he hasn't eaten it, take it away. I did that one day while I was working from home, but he started puking bile and I caved and sat in the room to make SURE he ate his food.He will eat if we are in the room but the minute we leave, he doesn't want to be alone and freaks out and won't eat. If we leave the food there long enough, he will eventually eat it out of desperation.Do I pick up his food and treat him a few "hard" lessons over a few days? Or is that cruel and should I just leave his food there for him to eat when he wants? Thanks for the advice :-)Kristan
Carol Dean <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:Are you giving him anything 'other" than his food...ie table scraps??? If not, he will eat when he is hungrey. I like to leave dry food down and my dogs nibble and eat when hungrey instead of gorging at one time. If you think it's a puppy vs adult dog food issue trasition him to adult chow by cutting a 1/3 into his meal slowly.I feed Nutro ultra, my dogs love it..it is pricey though........but I don't add any vit's or suppliments as its all self contained. They also have a large breed puppy formula which I like...........good luck,CarolSouthern Charm Labradoodles/GA

food is a behavioral issue (just being stubborn) or a physical issue
(he just doesn't like it). ??
