>>>From: Merlene [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] When Antje talks about moving the lace she is unpinning the lace off of the pattern and moving it to the top of the same pattern. The pattern does not move. When most of us talk about moving the lace we are putting the felt or styrofoam under the last inch or two of the pattern we are working and then moving the pattern as well as the lace.<<<
Most of us make a long pattern in pieces, so we can work from one piece onto the next, and then re-use the first piece when we get to the end of the second piece. That way, we can move the lace with the pins through the pattern, as Merlene says. This is far safer for the lace than unpinning it from the pricking. Even if you don't have access to a photocopier to make multiple pattern pieces, you can prick through two pieces of card so you have two identical prickings starting at the same point in the pattern. Many of the old patterns in museums are of a single repeat, and old lace workers made multiple pieces by pricking through several layers. Robin P.
