That actually sounds quite attractive, Bev!! I remember those hooded
fashions... We all romantically imagined ourselves to look like a
Renaissance queen!!

What I remember about the sixties weddings (my own included) was that in
our small-town newspaper, the facts were submitted to the "women's editor"
who wrote the article which accompanied the wedding picture (always of the
bride, NEVER with the groom...) The thing which still stands out in my
memory is that the dresses were described in detail, even though she never
saw them except in a picture!! And they ALWAYS identified the gown as
"...trimmed with Alencon (or Chantilly) lace". It certainly sounded good,
but was probably never true!! The lace on my own gown was surely machine
made (it didn't cost enough to be handmade!!) and it did not resemble
either Alencon or Chantilly, but I'm sure it was described that way.

Several years later, this same editor came to see me for an article for the
women's section. I can't remember what my claim to fame was at that point,
but she took a picture of me holding my year-old son in what was left of my
lap... I was expecting my second child at that point. So the caption
under the picture read, "... wearing a smart frock..." !! I still laugh
and laugh when I think of it - yup - it was smart alright - the proverbial
maternity tent!!
