Hi everyone, and thank you Janice for the nice report - yes quiet list
- so... what's everyone else doing in lace?
Today was the North Carolina Regional Lacemakers Fall Lace Day at Sweet
Briar College, and it was nice to see good friends again. It pleases me
that since I organized a Lace Day here in 2003, this site has been
recognized as such an ideal place for gatherings of lacemakers!
So what I have been doing over the past few weeks is getting details
worked out for a retreat at the College next summer. I'll give credit
to Alice Howell for her very helpful postings during her planning
process with the hugely successful event she worked on this summer in
the Pacific NW.... She has been a great encouragement to do something
like it (on a smaller scale) on the EAST coast!! So there will be a
Mid-Atlantic retreat next summer! We will have three teachers: Michael
Giusiana teaching Binche Lace at all levels, with reconstruction work an
option for his advanced students; Susan Wenzel will be teaching 's
Gravenmoer lace at all levels, and will also bring her full range of
supplies for vending! Elizabeth Kurella will be teaching a class in
Lace Identification and Evaluation, using the College's fine collection
of lace as well as some of her own collection, and working with pieces
brought in by participants in the class. Elizabeth's class is ideal for
museum staff and volunteers as well as collectors and lacemakers. The
week includes opportunities for participants to visit other classrooms
to learn more about the various perspectives being addressed during the
week. The dates of the retreat are July 15 - 21, 2006, and several
special events are planned throughout the week.
If any of you would like more information, please write to me privately,
and I can send you a brochure, or can send a PDF version of the brochure.
