Hallo Susie and all spiders,
On a continuous lace I leave the pins in for about 2 inches, but if it
is a hanky or a circle etc where the complete pricking is on the pillow
I leave 2inches of pins plus I leave the edge pin in all the way round
to the end I find this keeps the lace very stable and keeps the shape.

_______
In my experience it is what kind of lace your are doing....some laces,
the
threads interlock very well and so 1 inch is enough but in a Beds
project I
was working on, both the instructor and I nearly died when my thread
pulled
back into the work three inches because I had taken out my pins too
early.
I think it is very important to consider how well your threads are
locked
in, as to how far back you remove pins.

Generally I leave 1 to 2 inches. Sometimes it is easier to pull them
from
the pin cushion than from the back of the work, so it varies with me. I

will be interested to hear other replies.

Happy lacing everyone.
