Ilske, I think the success of the treatment depends on a couple of
things....

First, you have to act very quickly!!  Grab the salt as quickly as you can
after the spill and ....

Put a LOT of salt on the stains.....

Wash the cloth as soon as possible afterwards (I did it next morning, and it
worked for me!)

Oh yes, I too have heard of this method but never believed in it, and 
lucky me never needed it. Till two weeks ago when DP let slip the  wine 
bottle out of his hand, red wine. There were only a few  little spots 
because I was able to catch the bottle. And I was to lazy to put away 
the table clotz immediately and wash out the stain. So I took the salt 
pot and poured it on the spots. What do you think happened? The next 
day the wine spots laught at me" hello here we are still on the ...."
