Not being a regular poster on Arachne but a lurker I felt I needed to come
out and let you all know about the wonderful time that was had by all at the
first "Lace at Sweet Briar", in Virginia this past week.

About 31 lacers spent a week lacing, learning under the tutelage of
wonderful teachers, Elizabeth Kurella who taught Connoisseurship of Antique
Lace, Michael Giusiana teaching Binche lace, and reconstruction as well as
the fantastic Susan Wentzel who taught 's Gravenmoer Lace and who had a
wonderful supply of lacing supplies available to purchase. We were also
given an opportunity to view the collection of lace in the Sweet Briar
museum, make new friends, and definitely enjoy the beautiful surroundings of
the Sweet Briar College Campus. The food was great, the accommodations at
the Florence Elston Inn were wonderful as was the conference center where
classes were held. The staff at the college no matter where you went were
always kind, polite and helpful. I doubt that anyone went home
disappointed, nor went home without make new and wonderful friends.

A great big thank you to Clay Blackwell and her staff for doing such a bang
up job. Try this retreat once and believe me you will be hooked!
