rather than simple...I think you mean conventional, the stitch elements are commonly combined (same as my erstwhile quilt designer - squares and rectangles in combination)(interesting, she was from the US). Then there are Torchon designers who go beyond convention, producing lace that is recognizable Torchon yet in a stylized form.
