I think that type of pillow is only used in Spain, though I have made one for myself (a bit more round though) as I don't like to use the Maltese bolster at all. Before someone on Arachne mentioned using pillows filled with polystyrene to stop pillows rolling around, I couldn't bear mine moving all over the place....and I hated sitting in the corner to work!
