Perhaps I don't understand you correctly, but you know that MPlayer, xine and
VideoLAN use ffmpeg.
ehm all three of them? Then I'm wondering myself why there are so big
differences between mplayer (less than optimal) and xine (really good)
at DVD playback. But I have to admit that it's quite some time ago that
I checked the internal workings of these players.
