I do not think it is required. It seems that this issue was with rsync and that a patch will be part of an upcoming release. Thank you for all your assistance. Hopefully, this will not be an issue for you in the future and the source of the issue should be corrected by a future rsync release. I still think your suggestions are really good. In particular, regard to providing more human friendly reporting for rsync errors.
