At the moment, I'm curious about the Spyder because I own one.
I will spend time writing an open-source driver for it if I can,
but I'm not interested enough to purchase more hardware.

http://www.dl-c.com/discus/messages/2384/2485.html does suggest
that the Sequel device interface might be public.  But then again,
the fact that Jonathan Sachs could get the spec to develop a
binary-only package doesn't necessarily mean that it would be
available for an open-source implementation.

Apparently Sequel was acquired by GretagMacbeth.  I poked around
http://www.gretagmacbeth.com but didn't see anything like an
interface spec (but then I don't know what the new name of the
colorimeter would be).
