I am mainly deploying LDAP to provide addressing services for mail clients.
(later I plan to use it for samba and twiki authentication) I am having
trouble getting the clients to find stuff in the directory. I can actually
get a search to find my test record using thunderbird (although its not
perfect) but outlook 2003 and outlook 2007 cannot find the same record. (I
know I need to create a custom schema to map some of the address fields so
that they work with microsoft clients but I'm just focusing on name and
email address right now)

Here is my record:

# jsmith, People, mydomain.com
dn: uid=jsmith,ou=People,dc=mydomain,dc=com
objectClass: top
objectClass: person
objectClass: organizationalPerson
objectClass: inetOrgPerson
userPassword:: e2NyeXB0fwenOGZSWGlNRXdnMFk=
postalCode: 92109
mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
homePhone: (858) 555-1515
initials: CC
l: San Diego
mobile: (858) 555-1414
displayName: Chuck displayName Carson
pager: (858) 555-1313
telephoneNumber: (858) 555-1212
givenName: Chuck
postalAddress: Postal Address
st: California
street: 714 Oliver Place
title: Sr. Systems Engineer
uid: jsmith
registeredAddress: registeredAddress
o: Myddomain Inc.
ou: Software Engineering
sn: Smith
cn: JohnXXX SmithXXX
homePostalAddress: Home Postal Address$Sann Diegoo, CA 92100

I have tried setting the search base on the mail client to all kinds of
things: (Note that thunderbird can find this record regardless of which
search base I set)
ou=People,dc=mydomain,dc=com
dc=mydomain,dc=com

I have tried making the DN for my test record:
cn=John Smith,ou=People,dc=mydomain,dc=com

Anyone have any ideas? I am a total LDAP noob. Is my search base on the
client side wrong? Am I defining my record under the wrong ou (People) or
with the wrong dn (uid)?

Thanks,
CC
