Dansguardian (http://dansguardian.org) does exactly that. I don't have
a family yet, but I do control the Internet access to my apartment, and
all port 80 web browsing goes through dansguardian running on a linux
box set up as a transparent proxy. It works very well and can be set to
log either everything or only denied sites. I worked for a school
district in Arizona where we used it and found it to be very effective
even on a large scale. The only way around dans is by using a proxy,
but one of its options is to block sites that would give information
about proxies. :) Check it out - I think you'll be very pleased. I
have been.
