I thought I would take this opportunity to respond even though I've been on the list for awhile now. I have never posted. I found LDSOSS doing some sort of search dealing with content filters (found DansGuardian linked from here). I think the idea of LDS folks with programming skills collaborating on OSS is great. I would love to help with different things but I have two obstacles. First, I have a young family (this is good) and little outside time to work on things (I feel I would need insomnia to get much more time). The second obstacle is that I feel a bit out of place. I love very low level programming. The skills I'm developing at work are more around drivers, lower protocol stuff, and networking (in Linux specifically). I'm learning more application stuff as I go, but that is not my strong point at the moment. I'm better at systems programming. What I hope to get out of the list is opportunity (which I can see is abundant here). I would love to share the talents I have been given in a way that benefits others without cost to them. I just have to find (or create) a niche in which I can help. It is very encouraging to see the activity of others with similar desires to share their talents.
