Tom,

We are inviting all LDS developers not just "Open Source" developers to participate in Beta II.  The LDS0SS is just one group that was given invitations.  20+ from the LDS0SS group have already requested to become participants.

The inclusion of the sample code was intended to be a helpful technical type to those desiring to generate GUIDs for GEDCOMs that will be uploaded to the NewFamily Search. This is how we did GUIDs with PAF 5 which was released almost 4 years ago.  In fact, that's where the sample code came from.  The information about the code was not intended to communication The Church's current attitude about Open Source or software licensing in general.  I think you'll find that we are not "scary" but want to share and collaborate with developers AND are friendly too.

Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Best Regards,

Gordon

Pardon me if I'm out of line, but I couldn't help wondering why you offered "C" code with such a scary sounding copyright declaration on the Free Software dedicated LDSOSS list.  Is there no cracking open of doors or softening of hearts in the LDS leadership and staff toward GPL type licensing?  I'd like to fancy I wasn't the only FLOSS believer who was left a bit speechless.  There are of course, after all, very good spiritual and moral reasons why many of us have chosen to stand behind GPL-type software, and I'm not sure it's good to ignore the thought that those values might be totally shut out in the church we are loyal to.

I have only been on this list a few months, so I may be unaware of some kind of "understanding" or "truce" that was previously made regarding this concern.  In any case, it would do my heart good to hear a little about it or to be referred to the appropriate archive.
